I've wrote briefly about this encounter in My Month in Pictures: March. The Sunset Dam female is called as such because she was a regular visitor to Sunset Dam in the Timbavati. She has an incredibly placid nature when it comes to game viewers packed with tourists, which makes her an absolute pleasure to film and watch.
It was a warm morning in the Klaserie, I was on drive with Chade, one of the guides at Africa on Foot - it was his second time at this sighting (he had visited it the night before) and it was clear that the Sunset Dam Female was going to be sticking around for a while. She had wrangled herself an impala and had hoisted it up into a beautiful Marula tree on near Baobab Ridge. With all this meat to herself, she was in no rush to descend it unnecessarily and was indeed found still tending to her kill in the Marula later on in the day (Chade got some wonderful pictures of her in the evening which you can see on his instagram profile: @chade_gelderman_mytypeofnature).
I shot the video of her below which, while not particularly action packed, shows off her elegance and beauty in the warm light of the lowveld.
I look forward to many more sightings with this golden, spotted cat. I hope I get to share more of them on my blog :)
